What is the role of the Trainer?

The Civil Mediation Trainer's task is to train new mediators in civil and commercial matters, passing on their training and acquired skills.

The teacher-student will be followed and updated with individual lessons.

The courses have limited places.


What does it take to become a Trainer?

Generally speaking, the educational path for a trainer can be a three-year degree followed by a specific master's degree. Subsequently, to officially fill this role, a trainer must complete specific training courses for trainers offered by specialized institutions.


What are the requirements to become a Theoretical Trainer?

Ministerial Decree 180/2010 requires that teachers of theoretical courses must certify:

Having taught courses or seminars on mediation, conciliation, or alternative dispute resolution at professional associations, public bodies or their bodies, and recognized public or private universities, both national and international.

Having published, including online, at least three scientific contributions on mediation, conciliation, and/or alternative dispute resolution in the last 5 years, in area 12 scientific journals, according to the lists published by ANVUR.

To commit to participating as a student at the same institutions in at least 16 hours of refresher courses over the course of a two-year period.


What are the requirements to become a Practical Trainer?

Ministerial Decree 180/2010 requires that teachers of practical courses must certify:

Having taught courses or seminars on mediation, conciliation, or alternative dispute resolution at professional associations, public bodies or their bodies, and recognized public or private universities, both national and international.


Having worked as a Mediator at Mediation Bodies registered with the Ministry of Justice in at least three mediation procedures.

To commit to participating as a student at the same institutions in at least 16 hours of refresher courses over the course of a two-year period.


What are the requirements that the Scientific Director must have?

Article 16 bis of Legislative Decree 28/2010 requires that Scientific Managers certify:

a) have a master's degree or equivalent;

b) having published, including online, in the last 5 years, at least 5 scientific contributions on mediation in class A – area 12 scientific journals, according to the lists published by ANVUR;

c) having provided, as a teacher, at least 30 hours of training in mediation in the last 5 years;

d) having spoken as a speaker on mediation matters at at least 5 conferences in the last 5 years;

e) have proven specific training in teaching methodology.


Who appoints the Scientific Director?

The Training Organization is also required to appoint a Scientific Director with a recognized reputation and experience in mediation, conciliation, or alternative dispute resolution. This Director ensures the quality of the training provided by the Organization, the completeness, adequacy, and timeliness of the training program offered, and the competence and experience of the Trainers, including those acquired abroad. The Scientific Director periodically communicates the training program and the names of the selected Trainers to the Ministry of Justice, in accordance with the provisions of Legislative Decree 28/2010, referred to in Article 16, paragraph 1.
